Ex-Senator Muthama warns Kalonzo against mixing family and politics

Former Machakos Senator and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party chairman Johnson Muthama has hit out at Kalonzo Musyoka for mixing politics and family issues, telling him to separate the two.

This follows Kalonzo’s recent comment about reuniting Muthama with his ex-wife Agnes Kavindu who is the Wiper party candidate for the Machakos Senate seat.

Muthama’s UDA party is equally sponsoring a candidate to face off with Kavindu in the by-election following the death of Senator Boniface Kabaka.

“If it is about politics, let us do politics – me and you – and compete in politics…let us not bring our families to politics. Although this woman is not my wife, I had children with her, so you’re hurting them by your utterances,” said Muthama.

“And you’re always pretending to be a diplomat, an innocent person, and someone who can be trusted. But now who you are in your true colors has come out to show.”

There was tension on Wednesday when the former Machakos Senator nearly engaged former Vice President Kalonzo in a fist fight following the latter’s remarks on the former’s ex-wife Kavindu.

The incident occurred during the burial of Bernard Nguyu (Machakos Regional Presiding Bishop of AIC) at Mitaboni in Machakos County.

Kalonzo had arrived at the burial together with Kavindu towards the end of the ceremony while Muthama was making his speech.

“I am telling you that next year, you will see Muthama running to perch on my chest, because he knows where we are and where we are going. Even if he gets irritated, I’ll hand over his wife (Kavindu) back to him,” Kalonzo said.

Muthama then swiftly rose from his seat, charged and headed straight to the Wiper leader.

He was however restrained by MPs Patrick Makau (Mavoko), Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town) and Robert Mbui (Kathiani) forcing the Wiper party leader to cut short his speech.
