Exams inch closer as KNEC start final preparations for KCSE

Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) on Monday kicked off examination briefing to education stake holders in readiness for the national Exams slotted for 12th  October 2015.

Stakeholders in the education sector in Embu County met at Kangaru School in preparation for the national exams.

Embu County Education Officer Beatrice Makau said that the stakeholders, who among them were security agents and examination officers, were briefed by officers from the Ministry of Education on exams supervision.

Makau said that all preparations have been made to enable students sit for the exams as scheduled.

“The examination will kick off on 12th October and all students will seat for compulsory papers” Makau said

She further added that Embu County registered 9, 278 students who will seat for Kenya Secondary Certificate Education (KSCE) in 194 centers while 13, 879 pupils will seat for KCPE in 498 centers.

As the exams preparations continue, The Teachers service Commission (TSC) is still in the process of recruiting teachers to invigilate the exams.

There is move by heads of various schools in the country proposing for rescheduling of examination dates for fears that students have not been prepared well to tackle the exams due to the recently concluded teachers’ strike.

This comes as the fate of 47 form four students is still unknown from Bongwe Secondary School in Msambweni, Kwale County after the school management allegedly failed to register them with Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

The anxious students said they learned of their unfortunate circumstances over the last two weeks after the school called their parents accusing them of delaying in paying their registration fees.

KNEC last month announced that about 1.4 million candidates are to sit for this year’s national exams, with the exam dates for KSCE being set for October 12, while KCPE is set to start on November 10th.

Last week Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi warned candidates against engaging in any examination irregularities.

Kaimenyi warned that stern action will be taken against those who will be found engaging in any form of exam malpractice saying that the Ministry of Education is intent on ensuring credibility in examinations.
