EXCLUSIVE: 150 Missing Children May Have Joined Al Shabaab, Families

The families from the Garissa, Marsabit and Mandera counties have expressed fears that the children might have joined militia groups like the Al Shabaab.

According to a highly placed source, the families say that the children went missing under unclear circumstances and they have not heard from them for a period of time.

The families reported this following an order by the government to do so.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Major (Rtd) Joseph Nkaiserry last month direc ted parents with missing children to report to leaders from the area.

The directive followed increased militia activities in the area and the general security threat facing the country.

It also followed the Garissa University terror attack that left at least 148 people dead and scores nursing injuries.

The families’ report of the missing children is part of the report handed over to the Office of the President and CS Nkaiserry by North Eastern leaders.
