EXCLUSIVE: North Eastern Hotels, Taxis to Register Afresh, Leaders

In a report to the Office of the President, the leaders recommend that after the fresh registration, the hotels in the three counties will be required to give weekly data of guests who spend in those hotels.

For the taxis, the registration will establish the owners and a specific colour given to each taxi by the Kenya Revenue Authority and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

The report also recommends deployment of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to the border along Mandera which is currently being manned by Ethiopian forces.

The report further recommends opening of the currently closed the Kenya-Somalia border at the Mandera and Garissa Liboi border points to allow movement of goods and people with special  checks on goods that come into the country.

Any goods found crossing the border through undesignated routes will be forfeited/seized to curb illegal sugar importation.

The North Easter leaders have mandated SUPKEM and the Council of Imams to audit all mosques, madrasas to establish who the Imams and Muadhins of each mosque are, establish the number of students at each madrasa to monitor any kind of radicalization or movements of students out of the madrasas.

The report further recommends recruitment of an additional 400 home guards whose salaries will be paid by the county governments.

An anti-radicalization international conference with scholars from Jordan, Egypt and Europe will also be held in June this year in Nairobi
