Expect flash floods, storm surges along the Coast for next 4 days- Met warns

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of intense rain followed by flash floods and storm surges over the next four days.

A statement from the weatherman averred the heavy rainfall will also be accompanied by strong winds.

“Flood waters may suddenly appear even in places where it has not rained heavily and can be deeper and faster than they look. The heavy rains and moderate to strong winds may result in strong surges along the Coast hence the marine industry should be on high alert,” Met said.

Heavy rains are expected from Thursday, October 10 to Monday, October 14.

Kakamega, Vihiga, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet and Uasin Gishu are among the counties that may experience flash floods.

Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Homabay and Busia counties in the Nyanza region have also been mentioned as areas of concern.

Mud slides are anticipated in Eastern, Central and Coastal areas.

Residents have been cautioned against driving or walking through moving water or open fields;.

“Do not take shelter under trees or stand near grilled windows as these are places or objects that attract lightning strikes,” Met said.
