Expect heavy rains and flooding from Sunday- Kenya MET

The Kenya Meteorological Department (MET) has warned of heavy rainfall and flooding from November 8 to November 10.

MET announced in an advisory released on Thursday that the ongoing rains will continue with a likelihood of the rain intensifying to more than 30 mm in South Western part of Kenya, Nairobi, Eastern and the Coastal region.

The counties which will be affected are: Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Murang’a, Embu, Meru, Kirinyaga, Tharaka Nithi, Taita Taveta, Busia, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Nakuru, Baringo, Narok, Migori, Nandi,

Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Busia, Kisumu, Siaya, Kakamega, Kajiado, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, parts of Tana River and Lamu.

Residents living in the mentioned areas have been asked to be on the lookout for floods, water level in rivers and lakes.

According to MET, flood waters may appear in places where it has not rained heavily especially downstream.

The department has also cautioned Kenyans against driving through or walking in moving water or open fields, sheltering under trees, or near windows to minimize exposure to lightning strikes.

Those living in the coastal towns have been warned of poor visibility while those living in landslide-prone areas such as the Aberdares have been asked to be watchful.

The rains will reduce in intensity on Tuesday, November 10.
