Ezekiel Mutua on 10 over 10: Tell children to sleep by 10pm

The Kenya Film and Classifications Board boss Ezekiel Mutua has urged parents to ensure that their children are asleep by 10pm.

According to him, this will ensure that they do not get to watch TV programmes that contain adult content.

“Strictly speaking, it comes out of the watershed hours; it is not within my gumboots. There is nothing I can do about 10 over 10,” he said during an exclusive interview.

10 over 10 is a weekly entertainment show that runs every Friday on Citizen TV with popular host Willis Raburu.

For the longest time, the KFCB boss has been thought to be “totally against” the broadcasting of the dance show.

He has blasted Raburu and his former co-host Joey Muthengi several times before accusing them of promoting “indecency” and failing to uphold the society’s moral standards.

Mutua claimed that the participants in the show were underage children.

“The only concern I have is sometimes, I suspect, suspect, that there are underage children, [who are part of the live audience]. It is the responsibility of parents to tell their children to go to sleep by 10pm. But, parents do not know. So, sometimes when Kenyans complain, we still have to show them that ‘yeah, we noted [their concerns]; yeah, they were using bad language; yeah, the dancing was not appropriate. But, [parents], tell your children to go to sleep; what were they doing at 10pm?”

However, it is a known fact that participants are always required to present their ID cards before they are permitted to take part in the show.
