Ezra Simiyu Sworn In As IEBC CEO

Simiyu expressed confidence that he will succeed in the task of preparing for the 2017 polls.

Speaking after being sworn in by Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga at the Supreme Court, Simiyu pledged to make the electoral body more proactive in service delivery and embrace lessons learnt from past elections.

The new IEBC CEO and secretary has also urged all political parties with candidates in upcoming Homa Bay Senate and Kajiado Central parliamentary by-elections to conduct peaceful campaigns and observe the electoral code of conduct.

IEBC chair Issack Hassan said his commissioners will help Simiyu, who replaces James Oswago, in executing his mandate.

Hassan has said the IEBC will appeal a court decision reinstating suspended IEBC Deputy Ceo Wilson Shollei.
