Fake alcohol worth Ksh.1.1M impounded in Juja

Police have impounded fake alcohol in Juja estimated to be worth Ksh.1.1 million.

They include 2,000 empty bottles of different alcohol brands and 200 liters of suspected ethanol.

The bottles had labels from Kenya Breweries, African Spirits, London Distillers among others.

10,000 Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stickers were also seized in the Saturday raid.

“The National Police Service and administration officers are working with the county government to get rid of counterfeit goods,” Kiambu Administration Police boss Josephat Kinyua said.

Police and county officials recently intensified the war against counterfeits.

Central Regional Commissioner Wilson Njega has ordered swift action on perpetrators of crime.

According to him, dubious manufacturers are operating within residential areas to avoid getting caught.

“However, the government will catch up with them and residents should report those involved,” he added.

Among those arrested during the Saturday raid was Margret Wairimu, a casual labourer.
