Families in Kirinyaga mourn officers killed in Dadaab attack

Families in Kirinyaga county are mourning their loved ones who were killed in the Dadaab attack on Saturday.

The are among 11 officers who died after their vehicle ran over an Improvised Explosive Device(IED).

Lucas Njogu Macharia told Citizen Digital on Tuesday that he had identified the the body of his first born son Kennedy Murimi Njogu who was 24.

The deceased was from Gatuiri village in Mwea constituency, Kirinyaga County and had joined the service three years ago.

According to Mr. Njogu, his son was the family’s hope for a better future.

And in Kangai village, Mwea constituency, another family is mourning the death of Kennedy Kinyua Mureithi.

He was 22-years-old and had joined the force three years ago.

Family members said the deceased’s father John Muriithi Githua is the hardest hit because his wife also died last year.

According to Penninah Micere and Lucy Wangeci, the man may not be able to cope up with the two deaths.

Burial preparations for the two officers are underway in Gatuiri and Kangai villages.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has since assured the families of Government support during this difficult time.

He said the country will not succumb to cowardly terrorist actions perpetrated by misguided elements out to compromise the security of Kenyans.
