Families Of Garissa University Victims At Chiromo To Identify Bodies

However, bodies that were to be flown from Garissa to Nairobi are yet to start arriving.

Some parents and friends present say they are still unsure of the fate of their friends and relatives who were at the University during the attack and have since been unreachable.

Mortuary attendants say some bodies may be diverted to city mortuary as the 147 bodies are beyond the facility's capacity.

On Thursday night, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery announced the end of the rescue operation that also saw four terrorists killed and one who had tried to flee arrested.

Security is still tight at the university and Garissa town but parents have been barred from the institution as well as from the Garissa airstrip where students who were rescued and those who fled spent the night.

Business is slowly returning to normal but sounds of sirens as rescue vehicles shuttle in and out of the university.

Parents whose children are missing are being referred to Chiromo mortuary, with latest official update on the siege and number of casualties expected to be released later today by Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery.
