Protesters demand release of Kenyans jailed in S.Sudan

The families of the four Kenyans sentenced for life in South Sudan two years ago on Tuesday led protests to demand the government facilitates their release, saying they were not subjected to the rule of law in the neighbouring country.

The four, Bonface Muriuki, Antony Mwadime, Antony Keya and Ravi Ghaghda were detained on May 28th , 2015 in Juba.

According to a family member, South Sudan police officers stormed their offices and handcuffed them.

“They were at work. The police walked in their offices and arrested them without telling them anything. Until today they are not aware why they are in custody,” said Tejal Ghaghda.

The protesters were petitioning the Embassy of Sudan but were scattered by police officers said their actions were unconstitutional and directed them to present their case to the Foreign Affairs ministry.

that would see the four released but Their efforts have however proved futile and non productive despite numerous attempts to talk to the office of the president among other government officials.

However, the protesters instead walked to Parliament where they presented their petition to Sirisia MP John Waluke.

“I will present the issue to the Senate and have it discussed.” said the Siria lawmaker. ”Tell your MP’s to attend Parliament so that we can have quorum to discuss the issue.”
