Families to pick bodies of plane crash victims for burial

The Chief Government Pathologist has completed the postmortem on the bodies of the 10 plane crash victims.

According to Dr. Johansen Oduor, the bodies were found with similar injuries on the head, chest and limbs.

This he said was enough evidence to conclude that the cause of death for all the ten victims was the plane crash.

“We now urge the families and next of kin to pick the bodies for burial,” Dr. Oduor said on Friday evening.

The Government Pathologist also confirmed that investigations into what may have caused the accident are still ongoing.

A statement from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority issued earlier in the day said the probe will be conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Department (AAID).

“Once investigations are complete, the report will be handed over to the Transport Ministry, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and other relevant agencies,” Capt. Gilbert Kibe said in a statement.

The Fly SAX plane left Kitale on Tuesday evening and was expected to land in Nairobi at 5:20pm but went missing.

A search and rescue team was immediately dispatched but the wreckage was only found almost 48 hours later in the Aberdares.

Residents of Njabini had to help the team to carry the bodies downhill as aerial intervention became impossible due to poor weather conditions.
