Family irked as burial of Rtd Gen. Tonje kin halted
The family of Rtd. Gen. Daudi Tonje, former Chief of General Staff in the Defence Forces, are up in arms following a court order barring the burial of their brother.
Shadrack Kiptui Tonje died in an accident and was to be buried at the family farm in Mochongoi, Baringo County.
His sister Dorcas Jebet Tonje said they had been served with the court notice a few hours before the burial ceremony took place.
“We had even prepared food, slaughtered the cow and made deliberations of the sendoff for our brother, but the move shocked us to the core,” she said.
She further added that they had been in contact with Rtd. Gen. Tonje on fundraising and burial arrangements so did not know that there were plans to stop it.
According to her, the move could be revolving around succession battles over land disputes.
Jebet further accused their senior of taking advantage of the disability of the late Shadrack to amass property that their late father left behind and subdivided.
They are set to appear in court on Wednesday for the mention of the case.
