Family of Ivy Wangeci speaks out on her murder
The family of Ivy Wangeci — the slain Moi University medical student — has for the first time spoken since her death.
Speaking on Sunday at their home in Makongeni area in Thika, Kiambu County, the family refuted claims making rounds on social media about her character. They say they want justice served.
“I want to state in no uncertain terms… There is no iota of truth in those negative things that are being spread around,” said the family spokesman John King’ori.
The family held a prayer session that brought together youth in the area, in remembrance of one of their own murdered in cold blood and in broad day light.
Her mother, Winfred Waithera and relatives are still puzzled by her daughter’s murder.
“I have learnt of an Ivy that only exists in the world of social media. That Ivy who is on social media is not Ivy Wangeci Githui, that must be another Ivy,” said the mother.
The slain student will be laid to rest on Thursday at the family’s rural home in Mahiga, Othaya, Nyeri County with the family calling on well wishers to contribute towards her send off.
Wangeci was killed by the blow of an axe delivered by one Naftali Kinuthia, who was her childhood
Kinuthia, who has been recovering in hospital after he was attacked by a mob, is expected to be arraigned this week.
