Family of woman stabbed 17 times wants matter back in court

The family of Peninah Wangechi who forgave her husband for allegedly stabbing her 17 times want the case back in court.

They claim that Wangechi received threats from the suspect and was not in a good state of mind when she said she had forgiven him.

Speaking in Othaya last week, Wangechi’s mother Loise Wambui said the family is struggling to come to terms with their daughter’s decision as they do not approve it.

They now claim that before the decision to withdraw the charges against her husband, Wangechi was ‘restless and seemed disturbed’.

She said they assumed that she was bothered by the fact that she had no job and the court case was due later this month.

Wambui said her daughter left home on Friday and did not answer their calls; they allegedly only learnt of her decision to withdraw charges through a call from a friend who had seen the story on social media.

The case is due for mention later this month.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Wambui said Wangechi had told her earlier that the husband had threatened to use his ‘financial muscle’ to ensure that she remains single unless she withdrew the case.

Wangechi has been living with her parents after the April 11 incident that left her in hospital nursing knife wounds and the family says they are concerned for her safety.

The mother painfully recounting the months she nursed her daughter saying she could not do anything for herself.

Wangechi withdrew the charges against her estranged husband Samuel Ndirangu on Monday this week.
