Farmers warned to shun middlemen as harvesting season begins

Nakuru County Government County Executive Committee (CEC) in charge of Agriculture and Livestock, Dr Stanley Chepkwony, has cautioned maize farmers to shun middlemen who are out to fleece them during the harvesting season.

Speaking to Citizen Digital at Kuresoi North in Nakuru County, Dr Chepkwony urged farmers to sell their maize to the National Cereals and Produce Board at Ksh3,000 for a 90 kilogrammes bag instead of selling it cheaply to middlemen.

Dr Chepkwony said there was a bumper harvest witnessed in various parts of the county, adding that farmers whose records are with the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) will get fertiliser.

The Agriculture Minister accused the middlemen of causing poverty in the county by pushing the price of produce down.
