Fate of Lake Nakuru chopper crash search mission to be known today

The fate of the Lake Nakuru chopper crash search mission , whether to continue or call off the search mission will be known today.

Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui is expected to chair a stakeholders meeting today in Nakuru town to decide the fate of the search mission which has dragged on for an excruciating 59 days.

The governor is slated to meet with National Disaster Management officials, aircraft accident investigators, divers, security agencies representatives and family members of victims of the horrific crash.

The parties are expected to decide whether to continue or halt the search mission of the crash that claimed the lives of five people after the chopper they were flying in crashed into Lake Nakuru minutes after taking off  from a hotel on October 21.

The five included Apollo Mboya the pilot, Sam Gitau, John Mapozi and Anthony Kipyegon all part of Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika’s communication team and Veronica Muthoni.

Since then, three bodies – Mboya, Muthoni and Kipyegon – have been recovered and clothes and personal identification documents of one of the victims and the wreckage of the chopper have been recovered.

The State Department for Transport through the Aircraft Accident Investigation Division (AAID) has also been conducting investigations into the cause of the crash.
