Father’s beating lands 13-year-old boy in hospital

A 13-year-old boy is nursing serious injuries at Ndindika Health Centre in Laikipia County after he received a thorough beating from his father.

The boy, who is a class six pupil at Noel Bustani Primary, was tied up and beaten for over three hours because he failed to fetch water for his father.

The child sustained numerous back and leg injuries during the Wednesday night ordeal.

His school’s head teacher, Mr. George Munyaga Githaiga, discovered the boy’s wounds and rushed him to hospital.

Githaiga also reported the matter to Kinamba Police Station.

Ng’arua Assistant County Commissioner Rufus Kihara confirmed the incident saying that the suspect has been arrested and remanded at Nyahururu GK Prison.

The case will be mentioned on August 4th when police statements and a doctor’s report are expected to be presented to the court.

Kinamba Sub Location assistant chief Leah Gitau condemned the incident saying it was unfortunate that such a punishment can be meted against a child.

She advised parents to take precaution while punishing their children and urged the local community to report such cases of child abuse.
