Fatuma Gedi now wants 4 MPs arrested over sex tape

Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi now wants four Members of Parliament arrested and arraigned in court over a circulated sex tape which she says portrayed her in bad light.

The four include Eldas MP Aden Keynan, Abdihakim Mohamed of Fafi Constituency, Isiolo Woman Representative Rehema Jaldesa and her Kirinyaga counterpart Wangui Ngirici.

Ms. Gedi spoke to Citizen Digital on Thursday after MPs rejected a report which, among others, recommended that she be reprimanded for allegedly leaking Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summons to the four MPs over the video.

The report was tabled by the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Committee chaired by Speaker Justin Muturi.

“The evidence submitted to the Committee discloses that the Hon. Fatuma Gedi directly used information obtained through or in connection with her office as a Member of Parliament and which was not available in the public domain for the furtherance of a private interest…,” read the rejected report.

“The conduct of the Hon. Fatuma Gedi of leaking the official letter and Memo dated February 21, 2019 by the DCI to the Office of the Clerk reflected adversely on the dignity and integrity of the National Assembly and its Members and was also contrary to the best interests of the National Assembly and its Members…”

It further added: “In consideration of the above observations, the Committee recommends that the House reprimands the Hon. Fatuma Gedi for conducting herself in a manner that reflected adversely on the dignity and integrity of the National Assembly and its members and was also contrary to the best interests of the National Assembly and its Members…”

Ms. Gedi however, following the win in Parliament, is now going after the four legislators who she accuses of uttering defamatory statements that tarnished her name following circulation of the unverified video.

She further accuses National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale of using his position to frustrate her and push for harsh penalties against her in the rejected report.

“Duale has been frustrating my efforts to get justice. He wants me reprimanded for defending myself…that is not leadership,” Ms. Gedi told Citizen Digital on phone.

A blogger Douglas Mbaya was last year arrested and arraigned in a Nairobi court for allegedly circulating the video.
