FIDA lawyers to get prosecution powers – DPP

The Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko now says that some lawyers of the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Kenya will soon have powers to prosecute.

“I have the mandate to gazette qualified, interested and competent professional as prosecutors,” Tobiko said.

The DPP who was receiving FIDA new Council members at his office asked the Council to forward names of qualified, interested and competent lawyers in their organization to be considered for gazettement as prosecutors.

The DPP cited with satisfaction many instances where his office and FIDA have worked in collaboration and achieved convictions.

Tobiko called on FIDA council to ask their members to work closely with state prosecutors in ensuring the needy in society have access to justice.

The new FIDA chairperson, Josephine Wambua Mong’are commended the DPP for continued support and collaboration in handling Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) cases.

Deputy Executive Director (FIDA) Teresa Omondi- Adeitan called for partnership fora in capacity improvement among the police, prosecutors and FIDA members.
