Fight breaks out at school harambee

Chaos erupted on Friday when supporters of Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and those of Teso North MP Arthur Odera clashed at a harambee function in the constituency.

The supporters exchanged blows in an incident fuelled by a history of bitter rivalry between the two leaders.

The venue turned into a battlefield soon after Governor Ojaamong arrived at Inkeng’atuny Secondary School.

The clash began after the governor’s orderlies allegedly roughed up one of the MP’s aides in their push to rearrange the dais.

Fighting broke out, and it took the intervention of police officers to quell the violence.

Speaking after the event, the governor condemned the incident calling on political leaders to be peaceful in their activities.

“It was embarrassing for the two camps to clash in front of guests of honour who were our MPs, parents and students,” said Ojaamong.

“I would like to condemn the incident and call on leaders to engage in peaceful politics so that they can be good example to Kenyans,” he added.

On his part, Odera called for resident to maintain peace saying his elections into parliament in the past elections should me a unifying car in the county.
