Find solution to water problems Oburu Odinga

Nominated MP Dr Oburu Oginga has asked the County Government of Siaya to find a lasting solution to the perennial water problems in Bondo Town and its environs.

The legislator called on the county government through Siaya-Bondo Water and Sanitation Company (SIBO) to move with speed and fix the regular mechanical problems at the River Yala intake so that the residents can get uninterrupted supply of water.

Bondo has had an on and off water supply for the past two to three months due to mechanical breakdowns and at times power disconnections, and Dr Oburu says that this puts the residents at risk of contracting waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid.

He warned SIBO and Kenya Power Company to stop what he termed as unnecessary blame games that are witnessed whenever there is a water shortage, and find a lasting solution on the matter.

Dr Oburu has called for the Energy Ministry’s intervention, noting that they can direct the Kenya Power Company to come down and agree with the county government on the mode of payment that will enable constant water supply.

The nominated MP, who spoke to Radio Ramogi over the phone, lamented that Bondo residents are currently suffering, further urging that the matter be addressed quickly.

Bondo residents currently rely on water drawn from contaminated sources including untreated water wells and the nearby river Yala, with vendors selling the untreated water at between Ksh.20 to Ksh.30 per 20 liter jerry can.
