Fire engines to cost Vihiga County Ksh. 57million

Vihiga County Government is has endorsed an ambitious plan to buy fire engines worth Ksh.57million.

According to Governor Wilbur Otichilo, the county is forced to borrow fire trucks from the neighboring Kakamega County.

He said his team has identified a supplier in Germany who are currently in the process of assembling the vehicle.

A spot check by Citizen Digital shows that one firetruck of the brand SCANIA, model P113HL Double Cabin Tanker Fire Engine 4300l costs $28,954 (Ksh2.9 million).

The cost can go as high as $58,900 (Ksh. 6million), according to website autoline.info.

He further said that the county will receive another vehicle from Nairobi to boost efforts for rapid response to emergency cases.

This is aimed at reducing the number of cases that have been witnessed across the county of property destruction by fire, he added.

The Governor noted that his government would also set up a disaster management policy that will guide officials on disaster management.

In 2016, Vihiga County offices were razed after fire broke out leading to loss of crucial documents.
