Fire Guts St. Francis Kanja School Dormitory In Embu

The suspected arson attack left 144 students without accommodation 60 among them being form four candidates who lost mathematical sets and other rudimentary exam gadgets that they were to use during the KCSE examinations starting today.

The fast spreading inferno is reported to have started while the students were having their supper in the Dining Hall .

The fire is also suspected to have been started by three students who were suspended 2 days ago.

While leading a team of Education and security officers to a fact finding mission in the school, Runyenjes Member of Parliament Cecily Mbarire called for urgent safety measures to curtail the recent increase in cases of arson related attacks in schools.

Mbarire called on school Principals to take stock of early warning mechanisms to arrest such occurrences including cracking down on culpable students.

The MP who was accompanied by area Deputy County Commissioner Tom Macheneri donated Mathematical instruments to all Form Four students, blankets, bedsheets, uniforms and several other necessities as contingency intervention measure.

She added that this would avoid overburdening parents on such short notice and avoid disrupting the exam process for the form four students.

This is the second alleged arson attack in Embu County within the last three months.

In August, property worth millions of shillings was razeddown in Siakago High School, Mbeere North Sub-County in similar circumstances.
