Fire razes down police station

Property of unknown value was destroyed after a fierce inferno burnt down police quarters at Kipkelion Police Station in Kericho County.

Confirming the incident, County Police Commander James Mugera said the cause of the fire could not immediately be established but they suspect it was due to an electric fault.

Mugera said the officers were on their respective duties when the incident happened, adding that the fire spread fast since the houses had been constructed with timber.

The police boss further revealed that officers who were on duty within the compound raised alarm noticed smoke bellowing from one of the rooms before spreading to the other rooms.

The officers, with the assistance of members of the public, attempted to contain the fire but were overwhelmed.

No casualties were reported during the fire incident but nothing else was salvaged from the structure.

Police have since launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the inferno.
