Fired Cabinet Secretaries to remain in office until new executive fully constituted

Fired Cabinet Secretaries (CS) will remain in office until such a time when President Uhuru Kenyatta will have fully constituted his new cabinet, according to a statement from State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu.

The statement dated 6th of January comes a day after President Kenyatta shocked Kenyans when he cracked the whip, unveiling his partial cabinet, in which he retained only 6 of the previous CSs, firing 13 in the process. None of the women CS in the previous cabinet was retained.

Hours down the lane, however, the Head of State who is serving his second and last term in office has come out to clarify that current CS will execute their constitutional mandate as executive arm of government, until the assembling of new cabinet is concluded.

“This is to clarify that the Cabinet Secretaries currently in office remain so, as instructed in a memorandum from the Head of Public Service in December 2017, until otherwise advised,” read the statement.

President Kenyatta further says that he will complete the task of assembling the team that will help his administration achieve the ‘Big Four’ in the coming days.

“His Excellency will complete the task of assembling the team…guided by merit, integrity, commitment to service, and in terms of the Constitution,” continued the statement.
