Firefighting equipment suppliers’ ‘not serious’ – Obado

Migori County Governor Okoth Obado has said the county government has not been able to buy a fire fighting engine because they have not been able to get a ‘serious’ supplier.

He made these remarks after members of the public lamented about the county’s response to fire, stating that property worth millions had been destroyed in infernos– despite Migori County Assembly allocating millions of money to purchase firefighting machines in the financial years 2014/2015.

Governor Obado blamed the county’s suppliers, accusing them of not being ‘serious’, explaining that they asked for payment before they supplied firefighting equipment.

Many schools and private properties have been destroyed by fire in the county, with the most recent occurring at business premises in Awendo and Rongo town.

Migori County residents are now appealing to the county government to ensure that each sub county urgently gets a fire fighting machine.
