First Lady Leads Beyond Zero Campaign Marathon

The First Lady held the marathon on Sunday morning, in an event that was presided over by President Kenyatta.

The First lady was leading 6000 participants in the  marathon, a race aimed at raising funds to support maternal health care efforts.

Mrs. Kenyatta was taking part in the half marathon of 21 kilometers.

The race ended at Uhuru gardens.

The race is an initiative aimed at reducing maternal and child deaths in the country, dubbed “beyond zero campaign”.

Statistics show in 2012 alone over 100,000 children died, before celebrating their 5th birthday.

The campaign also aims at elimination new HIV infections among mothers and children.

The race was sanctioned by Athletics Kenya President, Isaiah Kiplagat.
