First Lady Margaret Kenyatta in China for AIDS summit

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta is in China for an AIDS conference where she will deliver a keynote address on behalf of the East African region.

She accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta who is in Beijing for the China-Africa Forum for Cooperation (FOCAC) 2018 Summit.

The First Lady will join her counterparts from other African countries where they will release a joint declaration on AIDS prevention.


President Kenyatta will also be holding bilateral talks with China’s Xi Jinping that will focus on trade, infrastructure, investments, education and technology.

The summit brings together all African nations and China aimed at boosting the continent’s development.

The President and his delegation are also expected to deliberate on financing for Phase 2B of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha to Kisumu.

Financing for the Western Bypass in Nairobi will also be discussed even as President Kenyatta pushes for to advancement of Kenya’s shift away from pure debt financing to Private Public Partnerships.

China has been a strong development partner, playing a significant role in recent milestones achieved by Kenya.
