Fisherman escapes death narrowly after attack by hippo

 

A fisherman is nursing serious injuries at St Camilus Hospital in Migori County after he was attacked by hippopotamus on Saturday.

Benard Otieno was fishing at Wath-Remo Beach, in Sori, Nyatike Sub County when he was attacked.

Otieno who was in the company of fellow fishermen escaped death narrowly but sustained serious injuries on his back and the legs.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Sunday, Mr Otieno said they were fishing when the hippopotamus knocked their boat before attacking them.

They were forced to climb a tree that was a few metres away to save their lives as they waited for the hippo to leave.

According to Bongu Sub Location Chief John Okoth, several fishermen have died due to hippo attacks in the area while others have suffered disabilities.
