Fisherman hangs himself following domestic row

A 44-year-old fisherman committed suicide in Remba Island, Suba North, over alleged domestic wrangles.

Oloo Apata, a resident of Maranda in Bondo, is reported to have hang himself using a sisal rope in one of the structures within the island after a row with his wife on Wednesday night.

According to area chief, Alice Otieno, the deceased arrived home drunk and disagreed with his wife during which she pleaded with him to remain calm but he overpowered her and left the house for unknown destination.

Mrs Otieno said the deceased tried to overdose using ARVs he had been using but when that did not work, he resulted to hang himself.

The chief lamented on the rising cases of suicide in the region, further urging couples to look for better ways of solving problems between them to avert such incidents.

“The deceased did not leave any suicide note. I, however, want to urge couples to live in harmony and know there are better ways of resolving their issues other than violence,” said Otieno.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kirindo Hospital Mortuary.
