Fisherman stuck in Lake Victoria for three days

A 34-year-old fisherman has been stuck in the waters of Lake Victoria for the last three days.

David Ouma, a fisherman from Nanga beach, Seme-Sub county got stuck on Monday after his fishing boat was marooned by hyacinth near Obaria Beach,Rachuonyo North sub- County while on his normal fishing expedition.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi over the phone, Ouma narrated how he struggled to navigate in between the weeds but all was in vain due to the heavy windstorm accompanied by hyacinth which hindered movement.

Ouma claimed that two other boats, each with two fishermen on board, were fishing near him on the fateful day. He added that the boats went out of sight and have not been seen up to now.

He appealed to the relevant government authorities and well-wishers to come to his aid.

Homa Bay County Beach Management Unit chairman Edward Oremo, has called upon the County Department of Disaster Management to move with speed and intervene to ensure the fisherman is rescued as soon as possible.

This comes barely three weeks after four fishermen went through the same ordeal and had to spend two nights in the waters of Lake Victoria.
