Five arrested over murder of Nyeri chief

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday said five suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting of Mr. Peter Kimiti, a chief in Nyeri County.

Dr. Matiang’i, who was speaking at the home of the late the Kamakwa location chief in Gitathi-ini village, said investigations into the murder of the administrator were ongoing, adding that police are following crucial leads that would lead to arrest of the killers.

The CS assured the local residents that security would be beefed up to curb crime in the area.

Matiang’i was accompanied by Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu among other leaders.

The CS eulogised the slain administrator as a dedicated and committed government official who did not shy away from dispensing his duties.

The deceased was shot at a farm near his home as he was making his usual rounds in the village.

According to an eyewitness, four armed men approached him at around 6pm and opened fire before fleeing.
