Five charged with murder of Nakuru businessman

Five prime suspects in the murder of Nakuru businessman are fit to stand trial after undergoing a mental evaluation.

Gladys Wambui, Rahab Mukenye, Alex Okwemba, James Muhonja and Nicholous Mudegu appeared before High Court judge Justice Roselyne Korir charged with killing Julius Kimani Mathu, a Nakuru based tycoon.

They were charged after a psychiatric report presented before the court revealed that they were fit to stand trial.

Through their lawyers Wambeyi Makomere and Ochang Ajigo, they pleaded not guilty to the charges and applied to be released on bond.

However, the prosecution objected the application saying that the police are still gathering crucial evidence.

They urged the court to detain the suspects claiming that a call data analysis and a full cyber crime report is yet to be completed.

Gladys Wambui, wife to the deceased, is alleged to have hired hit-men with and paid them over Ksh.1 million as deposit to kill her husband.

According to homicide sleuths, evidence linking the wife to the murder included numerous telephone call records, detailed CCTV clips and confession statements which will be produced as evidence in court.

The businessman was abducted and killed on December 1, 2017 as he was returning home from work.
