Five children killed as lightning strikes village

Five children were killed and one injured Thursday evening after lightning struck Lumakanda village in Lugari, Kakamega County.

The five were among other children who were playing football at the Lumakanda Boys secondary School playground.

The injured child was admitted to Lumakanda hospital while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Chevaywa hospital mortuary.

According to Lugari OCPD Bernard Macharia, the children – drawn from different schools – had gathered for a football match when the lightning struck.

He called on parents to advise their children on the best practices during the rainy season so as to avert such disasters.
