Five churches set on fire by arsonists in Kisii

Residents of Otamba in Kisii County are living in fear over the recent torching of their churches and houses.

Otamba village in Nyaribari Chache area has for the last one week been the centre of quite disturbing and peculiar events.

Five churches have so far been burnt in a span of just 4 days, with the residents indicating that the activities usually occur between 1am and 3am.

The first incident was reported on January 20 when St. Monica Church was burnt in the wee hours of the morning.

Barely a day later, three other worship centres; Worldwide Church, Seventh Day Adventist and Legio Maria churches also fell victim. The Pentecostal Church has now become the latest casualty being on Sunday January 24.

Strangely, however, the satisfaction of the said arsonists is seeing the alters of the church literally on fire.

An amateur drawing of what appears to be two persons and a cross being the only sign the arsonists left after their early morning attack.

It is however unclear who these people are and what exactly their message is. All that the residents of Otamba village know is that their lives are in danger, as the suspects are also burning their homes.

Security officials in the area however insist that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
