Five family members killed in accident buried in Nyeri

Five out of seven members of the same family from Nyeri who perished at Salgaa along the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway last week were on Friday buried in a an emotional sendoff at their Central Kenya ancestral home.
The five; father, son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, were laid to rest in a mass grave amid calls to the government from relatives and leaders in attendance to redesign the notorious Salgaa black-spot to avert more loss of lives.
Speaker after speaker called on the Government to redesign all black-spots in the country as well as enforce traffic laws to reduce the high number of road carnage.
They put the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on the spot for failing to put in place measures to curb accidents.
Nakuru Women Representative Mary Mbugua called on drivers to be more vigilant on the roads to avert unnecessary loss of lives.
Area MP Peter Weru said redesigning of all roads with black spots was the only way out in ending road carnage in the country.
Tragedy struck Saturday morning when the car the family members were travelling in collided with a lorry killing all the seven members of the same family.
The seven perished on the spot, but the occupants of the truck escaped with minor injuries.

According to a relative, Peter Wanjau, the victims were headed to Kitale after attending a burial ceremony of their relative in Nyeri.
