Five in court for stealing 3-day old baby

A Makadara court has remanded five women in relation to theft of a 3-day old toddler two months ago.

The mother of the toddler is a 17-year old girl from Busia, Uganda, Robina Kwangala, who is alleged to have been working as a house help in one of the women’s home when the baby was stolen three days after birth.

She said that she was tricked into giving the baby only to be given Ksh.1,500 while the baby was allegedly sold for Ksh.25,000.

Police were granted more time by the court to enable them visit Mama Lucy Hospital to asses and verify documents relating to the birth of the child.

The police also told the court that they needed to get the infant’s mother to safety as there are reports of threats to her life by relatives of the respondents.

The accused, who stole the baby from the teenager in Embakasi, Nairobi, were arrested in Mwala, Machakos county last week.

The case will be mentioned on March 15, 2018.
