Five KCSE candidates arrested with mobile phones

Five candidates sitting this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam in Murang’a County were arrested on Monday afternoon after they were caught with mobile phones in the examination room.

The students at Maragua Muslim Girls Secondary School were sitting the Physics practical exam when they were nabbed with the gadgets.

Sources told Citizen Digital that the students were nabbed after the security officer deployed at the school reported to the police that he had noticed suspicious activity at the examination centre.

Detectives were immediately dispatched to the school where they nabbed the students with each one of them being in possession of a mobile phone.

The girls were taken to Maragua Police Station as further investigations continue to establish how they were allowed to get into the exam room with mobile phones.

Confirming the incident, Murang’a County Commissioner John Elung’ata said the invigilator and supervisor at the school were also taken to the police station to record statements.

He added that the exam officers would be immediately replaced and would not be allowed to continue supervising the exam.

The school management declined to comment on the incident.
