Five killed, 59 injured in Tawa road accident

At least five people were killed and over 50 others injured after the driver of a bus belonging to an AIC Church lost control veering off the road along the Tawa -Masii road in Ngele, Makueni County Saturday night.

According to Mbooni OCPD, James Baraza, the bus was ferrying passengers who had attended a dowry payment ceremony.

Baraza said that preliminary investigations showed that the bus was speeding, something that might have led to the accident.

Among those killed in the 7:00pm accident are four women and a seven-year-old boy.

The injured were rushed to Makueni County Referral Hospital in Wote while those with minor injuries were treated at the nearby health centers and discharged.

Baraza has now cautioned drivers urging the road to be more keen and avoid speeding.

The bodies of the deceased have since been removed to Tawa Hospital mortuary.
