In a statement, Boinett said: “Last evening, officers who were on patrol within Fafi and Yumbis areas were attacked by suspected Al Shabaab gunmen.”

Boinett said a contingent of officers responded to the attack by providing reinforcement and engaged the attackers in a heavy gunfight.

“In the ensuing tactical mission, two officers were critically injured, three officers sustained minor injuries and five vehicles were burnt down.”

The police boss also urged the public to desist from “posting any information on social media without verifying the same to avoid creating unnecessary panic and apprehension amongst the people.”
