Five officers killed in Al Shabaab attack in Mandera

At least five officers are feared dead after suspected Al Shabaab militants attacked 2 camps in Fino in Mandera County.

The Al Shabaab militiamen are reported to have targeted an Administration Police camp and a reservists’ camp in the attack that left four police officers and a reservist dead.

According to Lafey Deputy County Commissioner Eric Oronyi, the suspected militants also destroyed a telecommunications mast, cutting off communication.

Police officers have been deployed to the area even as locals fear that more explosives could be planted in the camps.
