Police in various areas in the larger Nyanza region are holding five people arrested for masquerading as census officials.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Sunday, Nyanza Police Commander Dr. Vincent Makhoha said two of the suspects were arrested Homa Bay County, another two in Kisumu County and one in Migori County.

“We realized that people wanted to take advantage of this exercise so we were very careful about it, we are still following up to see if there will be any masquerades and any other criminals who want to take advantage of this exercise,” said Dr. Makhoha.

The police boss further stated that a census official in Homa Bay was attacked for allegedly not being a local.

He however stated that the official was rescued by other area residents, adding that police will not condone such behavior.
