Five police officers killed by Al Shabaab militants

Five police officers have been killed and two others critically injured during an attack by suspected Al Shabaab militants in Garissa County.

North Eastern Regional Police Commander, Edward Mwamburi, says the officers, from Bodhai Police Post in Ijara Sub County, were ambushed by about 100 militants Tuesday midday.

Mwamburi says the attack happened about 10 kilometers from Bodhai, adding that KDF soldiers from Bargoni military camp have offered reinforcement and are still pursuing the attackers.

The ambush occurred in the backdrop of similar attacks that have claimed the lives of more than 30 police officers this year.
