FKF boss Nyamweya secures Osborne Monday’s release

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Sam Nyamweya has secured the release of Tusker FC midfielder Osborne Monday.

Monday was being held by the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) over allegations that his phone had been used to contact a suspected terrorist in Somalia.

According to sources, the player denied knowledge of the offence saying he had lend his phone to a friend and did not know of his ulterior motives.

Osborne Monday was reportedly released after police found no ground to hold him, and after he cooperated with the authority on the matter leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Concerns had been raised Thursday morning over the ‘disappearance’ of Osborne Monday who had been reported missing after 10 people claiming to be police officers picked him from his home at 2am on Wednesday.

The reports led to a social media push by football fans with the hashtag #FindOsborneMonday trending on Twitter for the better part of the morning and afternoon.

The push seemed to bear fruit as Osborne Monday’s whereabouts were soon divulged, indicating that he was at the Nairobi Area Police station.

Nyamweya is said to have rushed to the station to pushed for the release of the player.  Kenya Footballers’ Welfare Association (KEFWA) chair Innocent Mutiso, other Association members, family, friends and football fans are also said to have helped push for Monday’s release.

Osborne Monday joined Tusker from Sofapaka in December 2013 after completing a loan spell at  Mathare United during the second half of the 2013 season.

Monday has also featured for Azam FC of Tanzania and has been capped severally for the national football team Harambee Stars.
