Students, motorists stranded as floods cut off roads
Students in Baringo County are unable to report to school after roads at Kitiarbatai and Sururu areas were cut off by raging floods.
Most schools in Sirwa, Mogotio Sub-County remained closed on Thursday morning as even teachers could not gain access to the learning institutions.
Public service operators plying the Sirwa-Kimngorom-Eldama.Ravine Road spent several hours on the flooded routes that are only a kilometer long and ordinarily take a few minutes to navigate.
Other affected routes include Sirwa-Kimngorom-Tenges-Kabarnet and Sirwa-Kimngorom-Saos-Nakuru roads.
Drivers who spoke to Citizen Digital said huge stones that have been washed onto the roads from the hilly Chemorgong, Sirwa and Kapkein areas blocked their vehicles.
They said passengers were even forced to alight from vehicles and wade through the floods to reach their destination, a risky move since it was difficult to tell how deep the water was.
Elsewhere, residents of Salgaa in Rongai Sub-County have been marooned following flash floods that forced them to vacate their homes and business premises.
