Flashy tycoon Jared Otieno ‘smoked out’, luxurious cars seized
Controversial businessman Jared Otieno is reported to have driven himself to the DCI headquarters on Thursday morning after getting wind of a looming arrest.
DCI sources say Otieno who has been linked to the fake gold crackdown surrendered to detectives at around 5:30am.
Officers who spoke to EDAILY revealed that they had raided Otieno’s plush homes in Kileleshwa and Karen on Wednesday evening but he was nowhere to be found.
The flamboyant businessman is said to have spent Ksh.110 million on the palatial home in Karen, which he acquired recently.
Otieno, who reportedly spent at least Ksh.15million on his wedding in October 2015, is a key suspect in the fake gold and money laundering case.
The con game targets wealthy royals and businessmen in Kenya, the Middle East and European countries.
During the Wednesday raid, detectives impounded Otieno’s top-of-the-range vehicles and expensive computers.
The sleuths had given themselves until Thursday to smoke out Otieno.
When he appeared at the DCI headquarters in the wee hours of the morning, he was arrested and is currently being interrogated.
The DCI detectives said Otieno is most likely be arraigned in court on Friday, May 17, 2019.
At least 20 suspects linked to the fake gold business have so far been arrested in Nairobi with most found to be residing in the Kilimani area.
The quick-money scheme is so lucrative that a single transaction can reportedly yield close to Ksh.500million.
Otieno has been in and out of court over fraud cases alleged to involve hundreds of millions of shillings.
Previously, a Venezuelan man accused him of defrauding him of Ksh.300 million in a fake land deal.
