Floods kill mother, child in Bomet

The bodies of a 35-year old woman and her 3-year-old baby were on Sunday recovered along the riverbeds of Nyongores river in Chepalungu, Bomet County after being swept by floods.

This follows heavy rains that have been pounding many parts of the country over the last week causing massive flooding and loss of life and property.

Bomet County disaster management team had warned of drowning incidents in various parts of the county due to the ongoing rains.

According to Oreiyet sub-location chief Sammy Koech, the area residents mobilised themselves and retrieved the two bodies which were three kilometers apart, before handing them over to officers from Lukumek police station.

“We received reports from Chebara and Tumoi areas that the bodies were floating. We alerted the police who came and picked them and took them to Longisa morgue,” he said.
