Plane crash: What are the next steps?

The wreckage of the plane crash in the Aberdares will be retrieved as investigations into the cause of the fatal accident continue, the aviation authority has said.

According to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), the probe was launched immediately the Fly SAX plane was reported missing on Tuesday.

“Once investigations are complete, the report will be handed over to the Transport Ministry, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and other relevant agencies,” Capt. Gilbert Kibe said in a statement.

Countries involved in the probe include the United States, Canada and Fiji, all of whom have been notified as required by international statues.

A specialized agency of the United Nations, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), has also been informed of the ongoing investigations.

Once the wreckage is recovered from the crash site, deeper examination and analysis of crucial aircraft components will be conducted, Capt. Kibe added.

KCAA has however urged Kenyans to refrain from speculating the cause of the accident.

“We urge the public to exercise patience and allow their investigations to run their course,” Capt. Kibe said.

Kenya’s Air Accident Investigation Department (AAID) is probing the plane crash that killed all ten passengers who were on board.

The Fly SAX plane that crashed in Njabini, Kinangop was expected to land at the Wilson Airport in Nairobi when it went missing and all communication was lost on Tuesday evening.

It was not until Thursday morning that rangers from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) alongside officers from the Kenya Red Cross and the military discovered the wreckage.
